Online malls are a greatly conceived concept, but they fall way short of their
offline counterparts. The problem with online malls is not the mall itself, it is
the perception that each person has of a mall.
Online malls can not compare to offline malls.
Offline malls are successful because they have a ton of stores to select
from, and they have a good location. People go to offline malls because they
can do all of their shopping in one place.
Malls literally receive thousands of visitors everyday because they are
conveniently located next to suburbs and neighborhoods. Ok great, how
does this apply to online malls? Well, keep reading to find out.
Online malls can be very popular because there are tons of stores in one
website. The customer can choose from any of the merchadiser's and buy
direct from you. Sounds great so far, doesn't it? But, here come the
drawbacks.
Online malls have many drawbacks that make it impossible to make money.
Drawback #1: Online malls usually cost $1500.00 to set up, and an ongoing
monthly fee of $30.00-$50.00 for hosting. Not bad when you are supposedly
going to be making tons of money from visitors. Wrong! That is where
drawback #2 comes in.
Drawback #2: To get visitors to your online mall you are going to have to
spend hundreds of dollars every month on advertising. And to make things
worse, just because you have visitors coming, it does not mean they are
going to buy from you. To get sales online you need to bring in qualified
traffic that is looking to buy merchandise from your online mall. The only way
to really accomplish this is through the search engines, and good luck there.
Drawback #3: The whole rage with offline malls is that you can try on
clothing, shoes, hats and other apparel before purchasing. Customers can
not do that with online malls and will choose to go to a local mall over buying
clothing online. Therefore, no sales for you or anyone else who has an
online mall.
Again, online malls were a great concept, but for the expense, they fall short
of surpassing its offline counterpart.
